THE MOTORCYCLE:
Ducati two-cylinder V engine - 860 c.c., 85 Hp, 185 Kmh, Weber carburettors developed from the car series in order t limit the consumption t 12 litres per 100 Km. The tank-saddle assembly beside being aerodynamic, allows a balanced distribution of the fuel weight: 35 litres in the main tank and further 35 litres in the tank used in the saddle.
THE RACE:
At the "Paris-Dakar '87" 4 racing-car drivers fried the CAGIVA-LUCKY EXPLORER team:Β HUNERT AURIOL,Β ALESSANDRO DE PETRI,Β FRANCO GUALDIΒ andΒ GILLES PICARDΒ assisted by the TEAM-MANAGERΒ AZZALIN, one doctor, 9 land mechanics who were driving 2 Land Rover cars, a Mercedes Unimog 4 x 4 and Mercedes 1936, and 2 mechanics on a plane. Lasting 12245 Km the race was divided in 23 taps with 21 special trials. The CAGIVA-LUCKY EXPLORER team won 6 special trials, 2 with De petri and 4 with Auriol, who was first from 16th to 21st January when, only one lap before the end of the race, he was obliged to withdraw due to a bad fall causing the fracture of his ankles.
